Toward a future where medical education and training is accessible, workforce expansion is a reality, and improved outcomes is realized at the scope and scale necessary to transform health for all, the More in Common Alliance has forged a targeted, strategic approach that includes nationwide implementation of:
- Pathway Programs: inspiring younger local students to develop interest in careers in medicine.
- Expanded Enrollment at Morehouse School of Medicine: increasing from 100 to 200 students per class to allow more students to attend undergraduate medical school.
- Undergraduate Regional Medical Campuses: clinical training sites for third- and fourth-year medical students in underrepresented communities across the CommonSpirit Health system.
- Graduate Medical Education Programs: tripling slots for residency training from 125 to nearly 400 over the next ten years across the CommonSpirit Health system and creating more opportunities for a variety of communities not able to access care without hardship or extra effort.
Mirroring the communities we serve strategy will support an increase in less present clinicians, who might then return to practice in under-supported communities, where they will foster greater patient trust and compliance, leading to improved patient outcomes.
