A partnership that aligns mission and leadership

Medical Cohort

As validated by the AAMC and other thought leaders involved in improving variety in the healthcare workforce through community collaborations, initiatives like the More in Common Alliance offer a solution to these issues regarding workforce expansion. This joint commitment between a top medical school and a national health system leader is critical to leverage the rigor and resources necessary to effect change where it matters.

CommonSpirit Health recognizes that supporting the entire health profession ecosystem — by building their future workforce — is of vital importance to their success.

And Morehouse School of Medicine has certainly earned its place as a leader — not only for HBCUs, but also for higher education across the country, through such programs as the:

  • Black Men’s Research Institute, studying identity differences and the challenges they can present in a variety of areas — including economics, politics, culture, and policy — that impact Black men.
  • National Training Institute on Race and Acceptance, a partnership with Google Jigsaw to address strained interactions between harmed communities and law enforcement using virtual reality to cultivate empathy and understanding.
  • Making Men of Consequence Campaign, raising $500 million to modernize campus infrastructure, recruit faculty, and expand scholarship support.

At a time when decreased outcomes in health are widening, MSM leads medical schools in addressing historical and contemporary burdens, overcoming obstacles to health and health care, and working to eliminate preventable health challenges. In fact, MSM was recently recognized as the top US medical school for its social mission, which is integrated across its academic, residency, research, and public policy programs.
